The Perfect Sunday

New York, New York When you live in New York and you have just gone through a harsh Winter, the beginning of Spring can really change things up— longer days, outside drinks, bicycle rides and the many surprises that can appear along the way. We decided to take advantage of the weather and have a much needed mini reunion in Tompkins Square Park this past Sunday. Decked in our Sunday casual outfits (plus Carol’s new toy: her skateboard) we spent the day lounging around the park and thanking God that summer is finally approaching!

Edi and the Wolf

New York, New York Finding a new brunch spot in the city with no lines and good food is something that many would prefer to keep to themselves. In the spirit of sharing however, me and Carol would like to present to you ‘Edi and the Wolf’. Located on Avenue C and 7th street this place has incredible food a complimentary bread basket and a back garden! It certainly is an East Village gem- check them out at http://www.ediandthewolf.com/. By Paula Rezende

A Little More Fun in the Sun

Miami, Florida Everyone in New York City was thinking exactly the same thing this past weekend- how the hell did it get so cold? I mean, it was 80 degrees last weekend and this Saturday night we found ourselves hanging on to anyone we could find for body warmth. So we decided to cheer everyone with thoughts of better times aka a few months ago in Miami. So as we gaze at this picture of Carolina running off the dock we can reminice about better times and think: “only a few more weeks and then we will be complaining about the heat”

A Hot Mess at the Boom Boom

New York, New York Jessy Carolina and the Hot Mess, are a jazz and blues band specializing in American tunes from the 1800’s-1930’s. I first came across them in the crowded Union Square subway stop and have been an avid fan since. Considering im used to seeing them in Subway stops and low key bars, I was surprised to know that their next gig was at the fancy Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel—what an upgrade! As a result, me and Carol gathered our troops and went for a memorable afternoon of great music, drinks and an unbelievable view. Check them out at www.jessycarolinahotmess.com. By Paula Rezende

A Teaser

New York, New York Putting on your DL’s can really transform a woman. This theory really proved itself when Carol and I dressed all our beautiful girlfriends in these great jeans for a super secret project for the blog!  The “in motion” surprise will be revealed next week so stayed tuned! All we are revealing is that you will get up insight into what happens before heading out on a Friday night when there are a lot of girls, drinks, makeup and specially DL’s to spare.

Spring/Break Art Show

New York, New York The Spring/Break Art Show marked New York’s first ever curator-driven art fair, but it proved to be just so much more! As an High School as its setting, the fair’s dynamic was both relaxed and interactive. We found ourselves curiously roaming around from room to room exploring young curator’s interesting perspective of contemporary art. Amongst the best installations was that of artist Miky Fabrega.  He had us choose a pencil and sit down to draw the artist as he drew a portrait of you. The fair closed its doors on Sunday but we will certainly be on the watch for the next ones to come. by Paula Rezende

The Armory Show

New York, New York The opening of the Armory Show lured in an eclectic crowd and a large mix of art from all corners of the world. Amongst some of the best galleries present was Pilar Corrias. It featured the works of Brazilian artists Tunga and Philippe Parreno from France. The event was crowded and the art was borderline overwhelming, but in the midst of it all we still managed to find some familiar faces that made a $16 champagne glass worth paying. The fair will go on until March 11th so if you enjoy people watching and want to get a big dose of inspiration we definitely recommend going! by Paula Rezende

Ice Skating in Bryant Park

New York, New York Most New Yorkers would think that going Ice Skating in Bryant Park is amongst the cheesiest and most touristy thing to do in the winter of New York City. For Carol and I this was not a planned Saturday activity. As we were on our way to see a performance in the MoMA Ps1 we accidentally took a wrong turn and went Uptown instead. Turns out that Carol had never been to Bryant Park and I had never been Ice Skating—A match made in heaven! To top it up as we were on our way out a man graces us with a message: “This will be the last day folks, their will be no more tomorrow.” Lesson learned: Follow your instincts because taking the wrong turn might just be the right way to go. How to Wear a Denim Shirt Without Looking Like a Cowboy

New York, New York Let’s be honest- it’s quite bloody hard to wear a denim shirt without looking like you came out of a cheesy Western. Yes, we know, it’s the trend and all that but pulling it off with elan is a totally different story. So, considering we kind of live, breathe and obsess over denim, we thought it was our civil duty to show everyone how to wear this spring must-have.

The LES hipster (pictured) Wearing a denim shirt like the Blake by DL1961 with neutral tank and long skirt is a great way to work two trends at once without it being a fashion faux pax. When working this trend remember to keep the rest of the accessories simple and easy going. Just walk out to the door with combat boots (or converse) and some awesome shades and you’re good to go.

The Sweet Southern Girl (that went bad after coming to New York) In the South it is acceptable to wear denim and on denim with a cowboy hat. But, if you have settled anywhere above the Mason-Dixon line, just leave that combination out of the mix. Instead, pair a micro mini floral dress (huge for spring) and a denim shirt with motorcycle boots for a look that is extremely sexy yet sweet. Keep your hair in loose waves, pile on some bronzer (We recommend anything by NARS) and you’re good to go.

The Casual Cool Cat You can never go wrong with the standard grey, black and denim combo. However you want to put it together this combination is tried and tested and gives you an instantly chic look. Try pairing some sleek black pants (or black jeans would work too like Emma in Onyx by DL1961), a grey wife-beater and a denim shirt. Trust us, it’s simple yet extremely noteworthy.

Rocker Chic At Its Finest!

New York, New York It’s been a while since we have seen CitySpy editor, Carolina on The Indigo Standard and I know that you all have missed her as much as we have! And boy, doesn’t she look fierce? With her studded jacket, windblown hair and feisty attitude she exudes a certain kind of je ne se quoi that even if we tried we couldn’t replicate. More pictures coming soon!

A shot from the stage while LMFAO performed at their exclusive post-superbowl concert

Park City/Indianapolis/New York New York Fashion Week officially started yesterday and for everyone at DL1961, that means another week of no sleep and caffeine binges. We can’t complain: with such buzz surrounding our brand, we are MORE than happy to accept invitations to the shows of the most iconic and notable international designers.

We started off our year at the Sundance Film Festival, where we had the opportunity to mingle with our celebrity fans and attend some fabulous parties. Even though we had to brave through one of the worst blizzards Utah has seen in years, we trudged through the snow. Fabulously, of course. I mean, if Drake could risk his life to perform at Bing Bar during the storm, we definitely couldn’t miss a beat. No excuses!

A few days after we got back from Sundance (and so little time to coordinate outfits), we decided to go to the Superbowl with our friends from the Paige Management Group, spearheaded by Matt Shendell and Brian Mazza.  We hosted the official
Paige Management viewing party in both Indy as well as at the Ainsworth in New York City. In Indy, we celebrated the Giants victory till the wee hours of the morning at our impromptu after party, where things got a little rowdy when Madonna’s back up dancers showed up and performed a medley of her songs. We mingled with the elite crowd and we’re not exactly sure when things took such a bizarre turn, but we somehow managed to finagle our way ON TO the stage with LMFAO at their exclusive post-superbowl concert. It was utter insanity to say the least.

Now the team is back into our NYC grind, even though we’re literally working from our last ounces of adrenaline. Unless you’re living under a rock, then you know that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is in full swing. We are eternally grateful for our invitation to participate in the Robert Verdi Fashion Week Suites. You know, that sexy beast of a celebrity stylist who is almost as well known for always sporting a pair of great shades as he is for dressing notables in Hollywood. As a familiar face in fashion, editors, celebrities, tastemakers and fashion-lovers alike flock to his suites to check out the hottest trends.  Between manning the suites and attending shows, our DL1961 team has been running around the city trying to divide and conquer. All for our lovely readers, of course!

We won’t even get into the OTHER side of the fashion world, which includes trade show after trade show happening on both coasts this month. I mean, we still have to make a living. But there is one light at the end of this tunnel: Platinum Frequent Flier status. Obv.

DL1961/Misha Nicole Event

New York, New York Super trendy lower east side concept store Misha Nicole hosted a DL1961 Premium Denim event yesterday. The event was a huge success and everyone seemed to be responding well to the denim. This was mostly due to the impeccable merchandising of the product and gorgeous displays. The store boasts a multitude of cult designers like Kevork Kiledjian, Issa London and Sachin+Babi which gives the shopper more than the average shopping experience. The focus on global art, culture and giving back gives the store many dimensions and truly sets it apart from the normal. We are proud to be represented so beautifully in the store.

Misha Nicole is located at 303 Bowery New York, NY

A West Village Kind of Afternoon

West Village, New York City While all the Americans were out watching the superbowl this past Sunday, Paula and her European crew, took advantage of the situation by venturing out into an almost deserted West Village. While everyone else had their eyes glued to the television- this group ran around the usually crowded village, in and out of galleries and eateries. Although they may not have been to interested in the football (after all, to them, football is a sport Beckham plays) they were certainly up for the massive after party that preceded the big win. I mean, a good party is kind of universal. Don’t you think?

Sundance Film Festival Diary

Park City, Utah Our DL1961 Team is finally back in the office after a whirlwind weekend with the stars. We couldn’t believe the response we got from celebrities, producers, tastemakers and editors about our brand. We can’t thank Talent Resources enough (especially the infamous and insanely funny duo Mike Heller and Matt Kirshner) for inviting us to be in their gifting suite because it really seemed to be a celebrity hotspot. We had a chance to bond with celebrities like Mario Lopez, Emma Roberts, Wilmer Valderrama (pictured), Laura Prepon, Maria Menounos, Andie Macdowell, Annalynn McCord, Lil Jon and many many more who stopped by the our booth, picked up some DL1961s and wrote on our DL wall.

Overall the mood and vibe at Sundance was incredible. The little town of Park City was not only faced with the worst snow storm in years over the weekend, but it was invaded by a bigger forcer: the fashion crowd of New York and LA. While we sipped drinks at the Bing Lounge, danced at Tao Night Club and watched football at the Ainsworth we couldn’t help but think, “Are we really in Utah”. It was fun mingling with the same culprits we see out in the town in New York and engage in some good old fashioned NY/LA rivalry. I think Utah residents (if there were any) thought we were crazy.

And with the true New York resilience we braved the storm and got from party to after party to the after after party in our DL1961 and killer heels. There is a reason why they say New Yorkers are tough…
